TTRC was established on the concept of creating skillful youth; by providing technical training to residents of low-income settlements having an interest in the field of construction and housing. These trained minds could become active members in improving the physical and environmental condition of their areas. The idea is to train youths, masons, teachers and local CBOS and build capacity within the community.

In 2001, TTRC initiated hands-on training programs for professionals, having a diploma in civil engineering and architecture but no practical experience, through training in drafting, plane table survey, leveling and building cost estimation. A mason’s training program was initiated in 2001, followed by the youth training program in 2002.
